The history of Psychological and Pedagogical Counseling Center No. 1 in Bydgoszcz dates back to 1966, when, as a result of the merger of the Social and Educational Counseling Center of TPD and the Psychological Counseling Center, the Municipal Educational and Vocational Counseling Center was established by order of the Minister of Education, with its headquarters at 5 Sowińskiego Street. The head of the Center was Melita Lewandowska, M.A.

 In 1968, the first Statute of the Educational and Vocational Counseling Center was created and later amended in 1973. At that time, the Center’s responsibilities included qualifying children with developmental deviations and disorders for appropriate forms of special education or remedial support, as well as pre-vocational guidance, vocational orientation, and job placement support.

 In 1974, the Center was relocated to 11 Nakielska Street. In 1975, the Regional Educational and Vocational Counseling Center and the Municipal Educational and Vocational Counseling Center were established. Irena Urbańska, M.A., became the Director of the Municipal Center. During this period, the institution expanded its services to include speech therapy consultations.

 Subsequent Directors of the Municipal Educational and Vocational Counseling Center were: Dr. Barbara Kaja, Grażyna Trempała, M.A., and Daniela Bierkowska, M.A.

 In 1986, the Center once again changed its location, moving to 1 Obrońców Bydgoszczy Street. In the same year, Maria Richter, M.A., assumed the position of Director. In 1993, under a regulation of the Ministry of National Education, the name of the Municipal Educational and Vocational Counseling Center was changed to Psychological and Pedagogical Counseling Center No. 1 (a name that remains in use to this day).

 In 1994, Bożena Lemańska, M.A., became the Director of the Center, and in 1998, Wanda Gredżuk, M.A., took over the position.

 In 2013, the Center relocated once again, this time to 10 Jana III Sobieskiego Street. It can be said that the institution has come full circle, as its current location is situated right next to its original headquarters at 5 Sowińskiego Street.

 In 2018, Barbara Markiewicz, M.A., became the Director of Psychological and Pedagogical Counseling Center No. 1, and since September 1, 2023, the duties of Director have been performed by Dr. Krzysztof Kultys.

 Currently, the Center employs pedagogues, psychologists, speech therapists, SI therapists, a Krakow Method therapist, Biofeedback therapists, sociotherapists, and mediators.
